Our Curriculum

Kids on Collins offers an inspiring and aesthetically pleasing learning environment that provides every child with opportunities to explore and discover.

The National Quality Framework guides the practices of our Centre. The learning and development outcomes are designed to support the complex and interconnected learning of young children. The outcomes are:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity – We aim to support children to develop a sense of belonging in their early learning setting and to foster a strong sense of self. We respect children’s autonomy and encourage them to grow as unique individuals in an environment of acceptance

  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world- We support children become aware that they have the right to belong to many different communities. We encourage learning about diversity, social responsibility, co-operation tolerance and fairness.

  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing- We provide an environment where children can learn to become strong in their social and emotional wellbeing and feel confident to assert their capabilities and celebrate their achievements.

  • Children are confident and involved learners- Our program supports children to become inquisitive thinkers and problem solvers. We foster children’s innate curiosities and provide an inspiring environment that encourages investigation, play, reflection and enthusiasm for learning.

  • Children are effective communicators- We recognize and respect the many ways in which young children communicate. Our highly multicultural team support conversation and interaction in a multitude of languages. Children’s voices and ideas are central to our program and practice at Kids on Collins.

Learning occurs when children are active participants. Our Programs offer children the chance to describe, explore, experiment, create, discover and communicate. Children need freedom to initiate ideas and experiences and the security of a safe, respectful and supportive environment. We facilitate a range of choices and opportunities, allowing children to construct knowledge and understanding about themselves and the world around them.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, value diversity and strive to action cultural competence with our children, families and colleagues. The principles of equity, diversity and fairness are valued1 and inclusive practices are central to how Kids on Collins operate.

Use of technology

As the children grow up in a world full of technology, we hope to equip them with the knowledge on how to safely use it to support their learning and development. Screen time at Kids on Collins is purposeful and often social and is directly linked to the emerging learning ideas that are relevant to the children and the program. Technology is used within our Program as an additional tool to enhance curriculum activities, not a substitution. Educators use a range of tools such as music players, iPads, cameras, light boxes and interactive whiteboards to extend on children’s learning.
